Dublin Pizzeria's Outdoor Seating Celebrates Summer

If Tuscany is not on your destination list this summer, re-create the experience with an alfresco lunch at Amici's.

If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the eventual summer heat,  on Tassajara Road is a good bet. The restaurant offers outdoor seating and turns a blind eye to furry companions.

Amici’s specialty is its thin crust pizza made in a traditional Italian brick oven. The blazing 700-degree heat gives it a crispy crunch.

“It’s the traditional style found in New York and the Northeast,” said Richard Allum, marketing director of the Amici’s chain.

Pizzas range from the basic, such as Margherita (cheese, tomato and basil), to the creative, such as Manhattan Red Clam (clams and garlic) and Greek Isle (feta, mozzarella, artichoke and sun-dried tomatoes). If you’re looking to carbo load, try the new pizza Milano, which includes roasted potatoes in its toppings.

If the traditional crust doesn’t cut it, Amici’s offers a range of alternatives, including a light, extra-thin or gluten-free crust.

“We were getting asked for [gluten-free options] more and more,” said Allum. He said families often struggle to find a place that caters to their gluten-free needs.

"By offering a gluten-free menu and a regular menu, everyone feels included,” said Allum.

If you’re hankering for lasagna or ravioli, Amici’s serves a wide range of pastas. Salads and Italian side dishes also are on the menu, a popular choice in the summer.

Amici’s rarely changes its menu, although Allum said customers’ requests are taken seriously.

“We listen closely to the sorts of things our customers are asking for. Customers also can order takeout or delivery, which accounts for 65 percent of Amici’s business,“ he said.

"We have a huge delivery business, particularly to companies.”

The Dublin restaurant is part of the Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria chain. Established in 1987, the chain has grown from its first restaurant in San Mateo to 12 restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Dublin branch opened in November 2002.

If you won't be heading on a vacation this summer, make your way over to Amici’s. A few bites of the pizza will make you feel as if you’re in sunny Tuscany.
