Blue Agave- A little bit of Oaxacan food in Pleasanton

Blue Agave is high-end restaurant serving Oaxacan food situated in the middle of Downtown Pleasanton on Main Street.

The cuisine is simple staple foods like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and my personal favorite, quesadillas. What I love about this restaurant is that it is really focused on the customer experience and owners and employees are concerned about making every visit as perfect as possible.

I have only been to Blue Agave a handful of times and have also been blown away by the service, the atmosphere and most of all, the food.

So I decided to celebrate my 22nd birthday there and it was simply magical. I made my reservation via Opentable for an early lunch and was seated promptly on the amazing outdoor patio, and the culinary adventure began.

The food is really focused on being healthy and eco-friendly.

For example, the cooks never use trans fats or MSG. They also use canola and olive oils in the cooking. Also a great plus is that the beans and rice are prepared in a vegetarian style, which is very rare as animal fats are often used to flavor these items. I also really like the fact that all the take-out containers are biodegradable and recyclable. So this is a dining experience that makes you not feel guilty so sit back and relax and indulge.

First, we had guacamole and house-made corn chips ($10.75). Although a little pricey, it was delicious with lots of avocados, tomatoes and onions with just the right amount of spice and lots of corn chips for dipping.

While enjoying our appetizer, we just marveled and at beautiful weather and the picturesque downtown. We felt like we were on vacation, or had been transported to a far-away land.

The music played on, and then our entrees arrived.

I had four people in my party, so we sampled a large amount of food. I had the shredded beef tacos and kept them simple with just some green sauce and cheese. ($11.95 with beans and rice).

My dad had the carne asada ($18.50), which is a large grilled skirt steak specially seasoned with a secret spice blend and garnished with grilled green onions and bell peppers. It is also served with beans and rice and your choice of corn of flour tortillas.

Next, my aunt and my mom ordered something that was off the menu and the chef was more than happy to prepare it. They wanted the Steak Milanese or "Milanesas de Res" which is breaded steak and it is simply divine. Each entrée contained a huge piece of steak, fried potatoes, bell peppers and of course beans and rice with tortillas. ($18.50)

We munched on our entrees and enjoyed each other’s company and throughout the meal, we were helped by several friendly waiters and staff that catered to our every need with care and concern.

In my Opentable reservation, I had stated it was my 22nd birthday and was surprised with wait staff singing happy birthday to me and a free flan. It was so good and perfect for a warm summer day. This flan was special because it had Grand Marnier and orange in it ($7.00). The other three people in my party had a tequila soufflé served in a chocolate cup ($7.00).

All and all, Blue Agave is an amazing place with its superior food and service and is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or just a casual meal with friends.
