Create Your Own Luck This Weekend – Designate a Sober Driver!
A word from Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Submitted By Jody Iorns, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, SF Bay Area
St. Patrick ’s Day has become a national day of celebration. This year, through the luck of the Irish, St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday and that means that those celebrations will be more plentiful and, as a result, riskier than those held during weekdays. According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, 134 fatalities occurred on St. Patrick’s Day alone – of those 37% were due to drunk drivers.
DON’T LET THIS BE YOU! If you do plan to enjoy the celebrations, create your own luck by simply
planning ahead:
- Designate a sober driver – remember, even buzzed driving is drunk driving
- Remember the Safe & Sober Rides Program: from 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, through 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, Berg Lawyers will pay up to $35 of your taxi cab ride home – in Alameda, Oakland, Emeryville & Berkeley: Call Veterans Cab at (800) 281-4488. In San Francisco: Call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141. Any fare exceeding $35 must be paid in cash.
