Looking for something fun to do with the kids this week?

Our weekly Grab & Go calendar focuses on five kid-friendly events in the Tri-Valley. And we've added an out-of-town outing for an easy weekend getaway.

Pick and choose from this week’s array of events: Camping in Livermore, Kids Run in Danville, Frog and Toad in San Ramon and a Comic Book show in Pleasanton.

Family Best Bets of the Week


  • Where/When:
    Friday at 7 p.m. at the Pleasanton Library
    Why Go:
    Celebrate Children's Day/Book Day, also known as El día de los niños, with the bilingual puppeteers Magical Moonshine Theatre. Enjoy Mexican folk tunes and "Coyote Sings," a Native American tale featuring a crazy coyote.
    Price: Free!


  • Where/When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Del Valle Regional Park  in Livermore
    Why Go: Take the family camping close to home during this family-friendly three-day camping event packed with live music, kids activities, wildlife walks, bike tours, beach activities and more. Visit www.twodaytown.com for all the details.
    Price: Single day: $25/$30, weekend pass $50/$60, kids 12 and under free.

  • Where/When:
    Saturday and Sunday at the Front Row Theater in San Ramon
    Why Go:
    Treat your kids to this entertaining award-winning musical based on the Frog and Toad story series. The comedy follows outgoing Frog and reserved Toad through their adventures in the four seasons. Get a preview of some of the popular songs you'll hear here.
    Price:

  • Where/When:
    Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton
    Why Go:
    Comic book fans of all ages will enjoy browsing through comic books to complete a collection or start a new one. You'll also find toys and other collectibles at the show.
    Price:
    $5 for adults, $2 for children and $8 for fairgrounds parking


  • Where/When:
    Sunday from 8 - 11:30 a.m. on the Iron Horse Trail in Danville
    Why Go:
    Get some fresh air and exercise while raising money for the Children's Hospital in Oakland. The Devil Mountain Run includes not just a 5K and 10K run but also a kid-friendly "Kids Run" for ages 3 - 8. All registered kids get a T-shirt, finisher ribbon and prizes.
    Price:
    $13/$15  for the Kids Run and $32/$37 for the 10K/5K. Click here to register.

Also, don't miss the annual 31 Cent Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins locations in Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore on Wednesday from 5 - 10 p.m. Enjoy your favorite ice cream for just 31 cents a scoop while donating to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and your local fire department's chosen charities. Dreaming of a day at the beach? Consider a trip to Half Moon Bay this Sunday for some fun in the sand and a stop at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show on your way there. The Sunday event at the Half Moon Bay Airport features 2,000 driving, flying and working machines from the 20th and 21st centuries. You'll also find freestyle motocross shows, go-kart rides, live music and kids activities. The show costs $20 for adults and $10 for kids 11 - 17 (free for kids 10 and under).
