Looking for something fun to do with your family this weekend? Here are Patch's top local picks in the Tri-Valley.

Watch the world premier of The Magic School Bus Live! in San Ramon, catch the last Sizzling Saturday event in Pleasanton, see small furry friends in Dublin, attend the final weekend of Quirkology of Quilts in Danville and browse street rods and classic cars in Livermore.

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the in San Ramon
Why Go: San Ramon hosts the world premier of The Magic School Bus Live! The Climate Challenge. Fans of the popular Magic School Bus series get to see their favorite characters perform live in this new musical that investigates why the world is getting warmer and why we should care.
Price: $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and $15 for children 14 and under. Purchase tickets online.

Where/When: Saturday from 6 - 8 p.m. in downtown Pleasanton
Why Go: Stroll along Main Street with your family during Pleasanton's last Sizzling Saturday event, featuring live music, special entertainers for kids and special discounts from participating merchants.
Price: Free

Where/When: Sunday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the in Dublin
Why Go: Homeless cats and dogs aren't the only animals looking for new families. Small-animal rescue groups are bringing rabbits, mice, birds and other small animals to the SPCA for a special adoption fair this weekend.
Price: Free admission

Where/When: Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m. at the in Danville
Why Go: This is your final chance to see works of art created by local quilters at the museum's special "Quirkology of Quilts: Warmth to Whimsy" exhibit. The museum is normally closed on Sundays but runs special hours this Sunday before the exhibit closes.
Price: $5 for families, $3 for adults and $1 for children

5.
Where/When: Sunday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on First Street in downtown Livermore.
Why Go: See street rods and custom and classic cars during the Altamont Cruisers 22nd Annual Nostalgia Day Car Show. You'll also find arts and crafts and 50s and 60s music at this fundraiser for youth.
Price: Free admission

Actually, Pit Bulls are one of the most well-behaved, well-trained dogs out there, to both theirRead More owners and their familes, if they are trained to be that way. Only drawback to Pits, though, is that they drool a lot, just like any other hunting dog out there. Back in 2009, there was a story in Berkeley about how a Pit Bull saved her owner's life in a house fire, and all anybody could see was that it was a Pit Bull and nothing more. If you train a dog to have a nice and sweet disposition, guess what, the dog will have a nice and sweet disposition. And if you train a dog to fight, maim and kill, guess what it's gonna do? Doesn't matter the breed. I've known Dachshunds who were mean and resorted to biting in an instant as I have known Pit Bulls who were nice--but slobbered a lot. And about the only reason that Pits have the reputation that they do out there is more to do with the viewpoint of the person who believes that all Pits are dangerous to begin with and that perhaps one of their other biases may be a work here, like they hate people whom they believe to be "trash" or "thugs" perhaps, but that's more an indication of their prejudice than their experience with these dogs or any other breed out there. I've known Springer Spaniels out there that started out as sweet dogs with nice dispositions, but as they aged and their brians atrophied into cancer, they turned into vicious dogs and had to be put down. Like people, dogs are individuals, too.
