Get Out: Family Weekend Planner

Here's your weekend roundup of Patch's picks for family fun in the Tri-Valley for Aug. 12 - 14.

Looking for something free and fun to do with the kids this weekend? We're here to help with Patch's top five local picks in the Tri-Valley.

Eat old-fashioned ice cream at a farm in San Ramon, listen to country music and ride in a wagon in Danville, watch the original True Grit in Dublin, hear banjos and see historic demonstrations in Livermore and catch a Cody Simpson performance in Pleasanton.

Where/When: Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at in San Ramon
Why Go: Enjoy a free scoop of ice cream and listen to live music, watch interpretive displays, play old-fashioned games and more during this free community event presented by the San Ramon Historic Foundation.
Price: Free

Where/When: Saturday from 12 - 3 p.m. at the
Why Go: Attend the season's final Summer Roundup at the Danville Livery shopping center where you and your kids can listen to live contemporary country music, ride on wagons, participate in children's activities and more.
Price: Free

Where/When: Saturday at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.) at the in Dublin
Why Go: Catch Dublin's last family movie night of the summer, the classic western True Grit starring John Wayne (rated G). Bring low beach chairs and blankets and get there early (around 7:30 p.m.) for the best seating. (Note that the movie will be at the Heritage Park and Museums this time instead of Emerald Glen Park.)
Price: Free movie and popcorn

Where/When: Sunday at from 12 - 4 p.m. at in Livermore
Why Go: Attend Ravenswood Historic Site's annual Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social where you can play games, listen to live music, watch historic demonstration and eat ice cream.
Price: Free admission (Proceeds from ice cream and hot dog sales benefit historic site restoration.)

Where/When: Sunday at 2 p.m. at the in Pleasanton
Why Go: If your kids are fans of Australian teen pop singer Cody Simpson, get to the Stoneridge Shopping Center early to collect admission wrist bands for this short but free concert. As part of Simpson's "Coast to Coast Tour," the singer will perform four of his songs. He'll also sign autographs for those who pre-purchase his CD.
Price: Free admission wrist bands distributed to first 400 fans, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
