Las Positas College May 4 Concert Features Solo Piano Competition Winner

The Las Positas College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert, featuring the winner of the Solo Piano Competition for young artists, on Wednesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theater of the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts. Winning soloist Corrina Chang, a student at Granada High School in Livermore, will perform George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

“We were very pleased with the quality of the applicants for the Piano Concerto Competition, and were delighted with the judges’ choice of Corrina Chang,” said Music Instructor Mary Campbell. “The Las Positas College Music Department is happy to be able to offer this educational experience, both for Corrina and the student members of the instrumental music program.”

Directed by Instructors Cindy Browne Rosefield and Timothy Devine, the concert will showcase a variety of music from Dvora’s “New World Symphony” to African-American Spirituals, Campbell said.  Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com

Campbell noted that solo piano competition was underwritten by a generous grant from the Las Positas College Foundation. A Steinway concert piano is being provided for the performance by Sherman Clay of San Francisco.
