The true story of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took theDe La Salle High School Spartans to a 151-game winning streak that shattered records for any American sport, soon will be on the big screen.

"When the Game Stands Tall,"based on a book by Neil Hayes on the Concord school's 1992- 2003 streak, is currently in post-production and set to open in theaters Aug. 22.

Thomas Carter directs the movie from a screenplay by former Contra Costa Times sports reporter Hayes and Scott Marshall Smith

In a recent interview, producer David Zelon said the intrigue of this film is that Ladouceur "placed little value on winning, instead focusing his players on giving a 'perfect effort' in life."

Actor Jim Caviezel, who starred in TV series "Person of Interest" and "The Prisoner" plays coach Ladouceur.

Bev Ladouceur is played by Laura Dern.

Alexander LudwigMichael Chiklis and Clancy Brown also star.

Published by North Atlantic Books, Hayes' book, "When the Game Stands Tall: The Story of the De La Salle Spartans and Football's Longest Winning Streak," was first published in 2003, with a second edition in 2005.

A revised and updated edition of the book will be available in August 2014 to accompany the motion picture release.  More details available here on Amazon.
