And when men "think with their sexual organs", doesn't it usually get them in trouble? And given what I saw my mother go through after my parents' divorce, it seems she got into trouble when her sexual organs did the bulk of the thinking and since she had her children in tow, those bad decisions also affected them, eventually destroying the relationships she had with her children and affecting how she lived the rest of her life--alone in a nursing home, preyed upon by their staff who neglected her care and lawyers who only saw money for themselves in her maladies some two time zones away from all that she knew and three time zones away from her children--who settled down near their father.

There is nothing vulgar about this show. This show is about WOMEN not just about their sexuality. It's about mothers, daughters, grandmothers, wives and the people who LOVE them. This performance is for open minded, mature human beings. Adults that want to be aware of the plight and suffering women have endured. To take a look at life from a womans perspective. To approach some very delicate subject matter in a humorous and poiniant way. Please join us in this celebration of life! If you can't make it to the show but would like to be a part of this movement to end violence towards women, you can make a contribution to Tri Valley Haven, Livmore. We are not here to argue or fight, we offer this with nothing but love and respect. Thank you, Eleisa

Well said, Eleisa! I've been in three productions of the Vagina Monologues (Eleisa herself had a bit to do with that, LOL!). In every show, it has been amazing, challenging, magical and thought-provoking. Audience and cast alike has been able to laugh until our bellies hurt, cry until our eyes ached, be inspired, be uplifted, be outraged... the play challenges us to consider our roles in our families, communities and our world and what we might do to improve all of those places and situations. The play is about women's individual stories and voices. Sometimes those stories are funny, sometimes sad, sometimes horrific. Sometimes all three. Some of the stories you will agree with, some you might disagree with. That's ok--it's all about the diversity of experience. Vulgar is stuff like Hooters. Vulgar is stuff like cat-calling on the street. The Vagina Monologues is not vulgar--it is an outpouring of emotion and expression. You may not like it. You may not agree with it, but it has changed many lives for the better as a fundraiser for many shelters and other agencies whose employees and volunteers dedicate careers, spare time, and lives to the fight to deliver support and services to women and children affected by violence and sexual assault.
