Halloween Freebies for October

Fall festivals, dance parties, trick-or-treats and more.

Mark your calendars for some fun and free Halloween and fall themed activities that are not to be missed!

On Oct. 17 from 4 pm to 5 p.m., the Danville Library hosts a fall fest filled with mysterious tales for participants. There will be spooky crafts and fun for all! Get there early to get a good seat for the haunting good time.

Every year, my own family heads to Danville’s Fall Festival, where Hartz Avenue is closed to cars and vendors set up their wares. This year, this tradition for fall takes place on Oct. 20 and 21. The best part, for kids, is that they can wear their Halloween costumes and go trick-or-treating at all the local businesses up and down Hartz displaying the orange “Trick-or-Treat” signs. It’s a great way to start trick-or-treating before Halloween!

Head to the Danville Livery on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for another of our family’s favorites — their free “Pumpkin Jubilee.” Again, children can don their costumes and trick-or-treat at all the businesses in the livery. Children get to choose a free pumpkin, too, and participate in Halloween crafts. This year, there will be face painting, a clown, and even a jumpy house. Talk about a wholesome activity the whole family can participate in!

Bring the whole family to Blackhawk Plaza on Friday, Oct. 26 for a party in the plaza with the band, “Pride and Joy." There will be dancing, a costume contest, and treats for participants. Head back to Blackhawk Plaza on Sunday, Oct. 28 in costumes and your trick-or-treaters can go from shop to shop scoring even more sweet treats! Balloon animals, a magician, a princess, and even a costume contest take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Want to visit a free petting zoo? If so, Windmill Farms on the San Ramon and Danville border is sure to please animal lovers. They have several goats, baby pigs, a donkey, a goose, and much more. The petting zoo is open daily through Halloween.

Looking for some activities that don’t center on Halloween? Look no further than the San Ramon Library’s celebration of National Food Day on Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children will learn how to make their own healthy snacks. There will also be crafts and even winter gardening.

On Oct. 24, the Danville Library features a dance party for tweens in 4th to 6th grade. Your child will learn hip-hop moves from professionals!

There are just too many fun and free activities to take us through the rest of October. Whether you head to the library or a fun fall festival in Halloween costumes, choose your pleasure this holiday season!
