Dublin Resident Wins Rib Competition

Information from the City of Dublin--

It was "Dublin Cooks Night" at the Farmers' Market On June 13 and six highly-skilled grill masters turned out to compete in the first annual "Ribs Cook-Off."  KPIX-TV's Roberta Gonzales did her live weather forecast remotely from the farmers' market. The winner, Jeff Knobbe, was awarded the grand prize on camera.

The judges, including Dublin's own Chef Shell the Dinner BelleJose Guevara of Johnny Garlic's and Autumn Johnson of the Dublin Patch, said that Knobbe's "Firehouse Ribs" were the "perfect blend of sweet, smoky, and tender, with a little kick of spice at the end."

Jose Guevara, the Head Chef at Johnny Garlic's, presented Knobbe with a blue ribbon and a $75 gift card to his restaurant.

Knobbe, who is from Dublin, told Patch this was his second time competing at a rib cook-off, although the first competition was an informal, blind-taste test during a camping trip.

"The secret to my ribs is making them low, slow and smoke-free," Knobbe said.

According to Knobbe, he has been making this recipe for for almost five years and says it takes him several hours to make his ribs.

All of the competitors vowed to return next year to vie again for the prize.
