Dublin residents raise $500 for Dublin Library while eliminating energy waste at home

Dublin residents have raised $500 for Friends of the Dublin Library through the Dublin Energy Challenge, hosted by the City of Dublin and Energy Upgrade California.

The Dublin Energy Challenge, which ended on January 31, 2014, was a three-month citywide initiative encouraging residents to monitor and evaluate energy usage while giving back to the local community. Dublin residents who wanted to eliminate energy waste in their homes signed up for the free Home Energy Analyzer to reduce their energy use, while also helping raise money for Friends of the Dublin Library.

A total of 117 Dublin residents have signed up for the Home Energy Analyzer during the three-month Energy Challenge resulting in a $500 donation to the Dublin Library. Over 500 Alameda County residents have signed up to date for Home Energy Analyzer and more than 20 percent of those signed up are Dublin residents. The 500 signups represent more than $11,000 in savings for residents, in addition to saving more than 25 tons of CO2.

The Home Energy Analyzer uses PG&E smart meter data to evaluate energy usage. By pinpointing where energy is being used – and wasted – residents can determine the right energy-saving actions and improvements to suit their needs. The Home Energy Analyzer provides customized energy-saving recommendations including in-home conservation behavior tips and do-it-yourself home improvements. Homeowners looking to complete more comprehensive energy-efficient home improvements may be eligible for rebates up to $4,500 through Energy Upgrade California Home Upgrade.

Though the Dublin Energy Challenge has concluded, all Alameda County residents can still sign up for the Home Energy Analyzer at HomeEnergyAnalyzer.org
