'Hide and Shriek' Will Keep You On the Edge of Your Seat

The Dublin High School production is a combination of suspense, comedy and some hillbilly antics. A student tells readers why they should buy a ticket.

Instead of watching a scary movie to accent your Halloween weekend, treat yourself to a suspenseful comedy, courtesy of the Dublin High School Drama Department.

Opening Thursday and running through Sunday, Hide and Shriek by Tim Kelly is a hilarious play that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In Hide and Shriek, city girl June Hungerford comes to stay with a very strange hillbilly family called the Dimshrouds, who live a nearly isolated life in the mountains. June is attempting to hide from her fiancé Bob's crazy ex-girlfriend, who has threatened numerous times to kill her if she doesn't leave Bob alone.

However, the Dimshrouds find a use for June as she hides out -- she looks exactly like their missing cousin, Daisy Belle, for whose care they receive monthly checks from the government.  The Dimshrouds need the money to help pay off their debt.

So, they attempt to use June to prove they are taking good care of the missing Daisy Belle in order to continue receiving checks. However, complications arise when the real Daisy Belle does turn up, along with several other suspicious characters.

The uncivilized antics of the Dimshrouds will keep people laughing and the mysterious setting will keep them intrigued.

The actors and actresses of the DHS Drama Department perform brilliantly and  their talent and wit makes the play come alive. They put in hours of rehearsal every day after school, perfecting the smallest detail. The students also designed and built the set and costumes, while some very dedicated parents supplied power tools and hard labor to pull the set together.

Director Bryant Hoex worked incredibly hard to make this show be the best it could be and it paid off.

Hide and Shriek will not disappoint. Come see the work of the Dublin High Drama Department and add a little flair to your Halloween weekend!
