Dublin High School's Drama Department

Dublin High drama students talk about a recent production.

The Dublin High School Drama Department recently put on a production of Tim Kelly's "Hide and Shriek."

Performed from Oct. 28-31 in Dublin High's Little Theater, the play made for a very good Halloween treat. Every year, Dublin High puts on three different shows: in the fall, winter, and spring.

Each production is generally very well done and that tradition continued with this season's play. Halloween weekend was a very appropriate choice for Hide and Shriek, as the play had a large dose of suspense, drama, and mystery, which were fitting for the holiday.

However, the play was also very funny, and had a great helping of slapstick humor and sly writing. The success of the play could definitely be attributed to the excellent cast and directing.

The dedication that the Drama Department puts into their plays is unparalleled. The amount of passion that the students show on stage and the way they completely dedicate themselves to their work is truly something to behold.

Having previously been in two of the school plays, I can also attest to the camaraderie and family feelings that one experiences as part of the cast.

Once the show finally comes around, all the hard work finally pays off and the result is amazing. "It was a really great experience," said Ryan McRee, who played Aesop Dimshroud, "We had a really strong cast and all of the new people who came out for the play really improved."

The sentiments were shared throughout the cast. The emotions are amplified for seniors. Dublin High senior Sonia Bradley (Granny Dimshroud) remarked, "It was my last fall play, but everyone in the cast made it wonderful. The freshmen did a really great job in their first play, and I'm proud of everyone in the cast and who helped out.

"You don't have to be on stage to enjoy being a part of the show, either. Stage Manager Sarah Finn really enjoyed working behind-the scenes. She said, "We've been working on this for about two months; it's like my baby. I'm super proud, and it was one of the best experiences ever."

Students at Dublin High are encouraged to try out for the school's upcoming winter production, a series of one-act plays. It will likely be an experience that they won't forget. Otherwise, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to see the next show, as it will, no doubt, be a great entertainment for all.
